2. Chamomile

“Chamomile extract is clinically proven to improve sleep quality,” added Wakeman.

Specifically, Wakeman elaborated that “laboratory studies indicate that [the] chamomile compound apigenin protects against neural damage”.

Apigenin is believed to “reduce the amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer’s” disease.

3. Ginkgo biloba

Wakeman specifies that ginkgo biloba is “neuroprotective”, and has been shown to “improve mental processing, memory and speed of attention” in clinical trials.

“One trial showed it was particularly useful in improving working memory in people in their fifties,” added Wakeman.

4. Hops

“Hops extract reduces memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s,” stated Wakeman.

“[It] improves hippocampus-dependent memory, and enhances cognitive function via dopamine neurotransmission activation.”

5. Sage

Wakeman continued: “Sage extract is clinically proven to improve immediate and delayed word recall, alertness, calmness, and to reduce mental fatigue.”

He commented that a randomised controlled trial found stage extracts “aids memory consolidation and improves the accuracy of attention”.

6. Turmeric

The final ingredient proven to aid brain health is turmeric extract – also known as curcumin.

Wakeman declared it has “potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity” that “delivers a wide range of cognitive and emotional benefits”.

Turmeric is thought to “enhance cell generation” and improve performance on “memory and attention tests”.

“A recent study found it improves cognitive function in older people,” remarked Wakeman.
